There may be times where an update, repair, or other change to your Windows PC will trigger it to lock via BitLocker Drive Encryption(BitLocker for short). BitLocker is enabled on Olin devices by default and helps secure your information in the event of loss or compromise by encrypting your data. When Windows sees some sort of change it didn't expect, it assumes it's malicious and will lock the PC behind an unlock code to prevent unauthorized access.
If this happens, you can retrieve the code to unlock your device with the below steps or by contacting IT.
- Go to the Microsoft My Account page
- On the left pane, click Devices
- On the right is a list that contains your PC(s)
- Lick the arrow on the right of the row of the relevant PC to expand its information
- Click on View BitLocker Keys and a pane on the right should appear. There may be multiple listed, it is most likely the top-most key listed
- Click on Show Recovery Key and it will show a long code that you will need to enter on the BitLocker Screen
- If this re-occurs every reboot, please submit a ticket
